When does fall color peak in Utah?
Color moves downhill as the weeks go by. In a typical year:
- High elevations (Uintas, upper Alpine Loop): mid to late September.
- Wasatch canyons near Provo, Salt Lake and Park City: late September to early October.
- Valley floors: mid to late October.
- Zion’s cottonwoods: late October to mid-November.
Every year shifts by a week or more depending on temperature and moisture, so build flexibility into session dates.
